MiDAS

What is MiDAS?

MiDAS is the Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme which was launched in 1994. It was setup to make appropriate assessment, training and accreditation available to minibus drivers. The scheme was designed for minibus drivers from schools, colleges, universities, health authorities, local authorities and volunteer organisations at a local level. Organised by the Community Transport Association U.K (CTA), this membership based scheme was designed to enhance minibus driving standards and promote the safer operation of minibuses.

Would like to say a huge thank you to the MK Driver Training team. Dean, Dawn and Alex! You have been extremely great and professional over the two days I have been training with you, but at the same time being able to have a laugh and joke along the way has made the training even more enjoyable.

Objectives of MiDAS for Minibus Drivers

MK Driver Training will:

  • Assess your driving skills to ensure they are of an acceptable standard;
  • Where necessary, help you to improve your minibus driving skills;
  • Make you aware of the legal, practical and safety issues surrounding Minibus driving;
  • Train the safe use of accessible Minibuses where necessary.

Who is MiDAS for?

MiDAS is applicable to any organisation operating or using minibuses. Member organisations range from small voluntary organisations operating one vehicle to local authorites operating large fleets of minibuses as well as schools, colleges and universities

MiDAS for minibus drivers comes in two forms – Standard and Accessible. Standard refers to a fully seated Minibus, such as it can be used by a mainstream school.

MiDAS Training Course

  • Introduction begins with a explanation of the content of the course;
  • An interactive PowerPoint presentation on the responsibilities of a Minibus Driver;
  • Take and pass a theory test with 20 multiple choice questions (pass mark - 80%);
  • An on-road assessment.

For a MiDAS certificate to be issued, all of the applicable sessions need to be attended and the assessments passed, although facilities exist to enable re-takes where this is needed. Every attempt is made to try and achieve this during the course.
